University heads warn of €44m in shortfalls

“Irish universities will plunge into the red to the tune of at least €44m — and growing — in the current academic year, college heads predict. The projected cash deficit to meet day-to-day running costs for the seven universities is more than twice the €18m that was anticipated for 2008.
