Trinity College and UCD hold secret talks on research tie-in

“Secret talks are taking place between Trinity and UCD on merging many of the research functions of the two universities. The move, which has the support of the Taoiseach’s department, is likely to infuriate the country’s five other universities who fear it will result in a two-tier system. An announcement is expected shortly by Taoiseach Brian Cowen on the collaboration between the two Dublin colleges. Minister Batt O’Keeffe has also indicated he wants to see such rationalisation occurring. It is understood there is some Government impatience that the millions of euro invested in university research has not yet resulted in a quicker creation of high-quality jobs …” (more)
