Universities in dark on new deal

“A major row is brewing within the university sector over possible special treatment for UCD and Trinity College in a new and potentially lucrative research partnership. Other universities are perturbed that they knew nothing about the pending deal, that has the blessing of the Taoiseach’s department. UCD and Trinity have had in-depth discussions on an unprecedented collaboration to stimulate job creation in line with the Government’s Smart Economy plan. But other universities say they were left in the dark about the initiative and still don’t know what is happening. They fear it will see the two big Dublin colleges taking the lion’s share of research funding under the forthcoming round of the Government’s Programme for Research in Third Level Institutions …” (more)
