Maths Foundation Rocked

Ireland“… Busy with the news that National College of Ireland has lowered a very substantial barrier to third level education. Most HEIs (Higher Education Institutes) require at least a D3 in Leaving Certificate Ordinary Level Maths for entry to their courses. This has blocked the education road for a lot of students; 5,803 last year to be exact. That’s the number of students who sat the Foundation Maths leaving cert. last year. After speaking to many many students on this matter, I’ve come to the conclusion that it’s not just the students fault. In a lot of cases, the students were placed in the Foundation stream by their teachers, without the understanding of the limitations it would have on their education …” (more)
