The Government needs a plan for our universities

“As the nation is now rudely awakened to the fact that the Celtic Tiger is no more, we are left wondering about its legacy and, more importantly, what future now faces us. This situation raises major challenges for our universities, but are they equipped to face them? While our current attention is focused on what effect cutbacks will have on the sector, deeper questions need to be raised about the Government’s plans for our universities. On the one hand, funding is provided for research in certain areas of science and technology.
