Pay rise for university professors

“Up to 300 university professors across the country are set to receive a backdated 8% increase in their salaries, the College View has learned. The changes mean the annual salary of the president of DCU, Professor Ferdinand von Prondzynski, will rise to €236,000 – only €4,000 short of what a government minister earns. The Report of the O’Brien Review Group on Higher Remuneration recommended an increase of 5.5% in professors’ salaries. This, combined with the 2.5% increase negotiated by the social partners under the National Pay Agreement in March 2008 will see some professors receiving backdated payments of up to €10,000 each. The increase was approved by the Department of Education in December and came as a result of a major review of salaries of higher posts in the public sector, which was published in September 2007 …” (more)
