Almost 60pc say college fees are bad idea

“The Government faces a revolt if it reintroduces tuition fees for students in third-level colleges. A massive 58pc of adults do not think fees should be reintroduced, according to a new Irish Independent / Millward Brown IMS poll. Only a fifth (21pc) believe they should be brought back; 17pc say ‘it depends’ and the remainder are in the ‘don’t know’ category. The findings will give the Government pause for thought as Education Minister Batt O’Keeffe plans to bring proposals to Cabinet next month. Students who have engaged in major protests over the past few months say they will step up their action if there is any decision to bring back tuition fees …” (more)
