Protest

“After writing before about not having anything to protest, the University of Liverpool gave me a chance. The new Vice-Chancellor, Sir Howard Newby, has proposed the closure of some academic departments because of poor research ratings. Now I don’t really feel very strongly opposed to his plans per se, but the fact that there has been no consultation with students was quite irksome. The subjects under threat are Philosophy, Politics & Communications, and Statistics. Communications I’m not too bothered about but they and Politics are classed as a single school. I have lots of friends in Politics and a couple in Philosophy so I mainly went to support them and I don’t think there should be any question regarding Statistics …” (more)
