“Up to 8,500 public servants are expected to retire in the coming months ahead of the closure of a generous retirement benefits offer in February. Union leaders are warning that mass departures would prompt a crisis in some areas.     The statement that retiring public servants are typically entitled to a pension of 50 per cent is no longer true … the percentage for exsting retirees and those retiring befor the end of next Febraury was reduced to about 44% of pay in the last budget.
