  • His equation of teaching with lecturing is telling: what about supervizing graduate students, fourth year projects?

  • Or helping them get sorted on Ethical clearance, or troubleshooting research design difficulties, or covering meetings for colleagues who are at ‘policy workshops’….

  • Not to mention covering for colleagues whose political careers are getting started, and are well on their way to an eventual role as Minister for Education …

  • I agree with all of the above comments – though I would point out that this kind of belief about what lecturers do is widespread, and the flames are occasionally fanned by what some prominent (i.e. well known) academics say in public.
